Located in the North Sea, the SeaMade project will comprise of 58 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbines. The SeaMade offshore wind project integrates two sites known as Mermaid and Seastar in the Belgian exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The Mermaid site is located approximately 50km from the Belgian coast and will host 28 turbines with a total capacity of 235MW. Located approximately 40km away from the coast, the Seastar site will accommodate 30 turbines with a total capacity of 252MW.
The €1.3bn SeaMade wind farm is a joint venture of the Otary RS NV (70%), Engie Electrabel NV (17.5%) and Eneco Wind Belgium SA (12.5&).
EIRTECK is currently working on the preassemble Electrical Installation from the Otary’s logistic hub located in the port of Ostend for Global Wind Service (GWS) who are the main sub-Contractor to Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) on the project. Works include the installation of all LV Electrical systems within the tower, HV cable installation, installation of Electrical Isolations, supplying nominated persons on site, tower testing and snagging and pre-commissioning to final walk down.
The SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbine has a rated capacity of 8.0 MW, and a rotor with a 167- meter diameter. It has a swept area of 21,900 m2, and utilizes the SGRE B81 blades, each measuring 81.4 meters.
Offshore construction began in 2019 and is expected to be completed in 2020. On completion, the SeaMade wind farm will generate 487MW sustainable renewable energy to power 485,000 households in the region on an annual basis and will offset 500,000t of CO2 emissions a year.
